"Dolores Huerta" (2014) – mural (acrylic paint)
This is my painting of Dolores Huerta (32 in. x 52 in.) on the Change The World mural at Gray Avenue Middle School in Yuba City, California.
Dolores Huerta is a labor leader and civil rights activist who (along with César Chávez) co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). She has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for workers’, migrants’, and women’s rights – including the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and induction into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Huerta will go down in history as one of this nation’s most influential labor activists and a top leader in the Chican@ Movement.
