"César Chávez" (2014) – mural (acrylic paint)
This is my painting of César Chávez (33" x 70") on the Change The World mural at Gray Avenue Middle School in Yuba City, California.
César Chávez is the most influential and recognized Latino leader in U.S. history. As a union activist and labor organizer, he fought for farmworkers' rights using nonviolent methods through boycotts, marches, and hunger strikes. As one of the key figures who inspired the Chicano Movement in the 1960s and '70s, he did more for Latino political power than any other person in the history of the United States. For his devotion to some of the poorest workers in America, he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and his birthday (March 31st) is celebrated as a holiday in many western states.
