‘Muhammad Ali’
(Sybille Titeux de la Croix & Amazing Améziane)
9/10 (A-)
A graphic biography celebrating the life of Muhammad Ali, who began his career as a young boxer named Cassius Clay and matured into a boxing legend, human rights activist, and one of the greatest icons of the twentieth century. A transcender of sports, Ali was outspoken in rejecting his birth name as a “slave name,” defiant in refusing to be drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, and courageous in his long battle with Parkinson’s Syndrome.
Though very wordy and containing small print, ‘Muhammad Ali’ is a beautiful book with excellent artwork, creative page layouts, and poetic writing – ingeniously weaving historical context with Ali’s story to create an overall theme of resistance.
*’Muhammad Ali’ started out as a critically acclaimed French graphic novel that was later published in English by Dark Horse Comics.
