"Mohandas Gandhi" (2014) – mural (acrylic paint)
This is my painting of Mohandas Gandhi (55" x 47") on the Change The World mural at Gray Avenue Middle School in Yuba City, California.
Whether you agree or disagree if he deserves the honorific “Mahatma” title, there is no denying that Gandhi was an extraordinary man. He was the preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India, employing nonviolent civil disobedience and undertaking long fasts - both, as self-purification and as social protest - in leading India to independence in 1947. His efforts inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi is commonly referred as the Father of the Nation in India. His birthday (October 2nd) is now celebrated as an Indian national holiday and world-wide as the International Day of Nonviolence.
