Mural art portrait painting of Indian human rights leader Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi, looking at the viewer and smiling.

"Mohandas Gandhi" (2014) – mural (acrylic paint)

Browse Art Shop

This is my painting of Mohandas Gandhi (55 x 47 in.) on the Change The World mural at Gray Avenue Middle School in Yuba City, California.

Whether or not you agree if he deserves the honorific "Mahatma" title, there is no denying that Gandhi was an extraordinary man. He was the preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India, employing nonviolent civil disobedience and undertaking long fasts – both, as self-purification and as social protest – in leading India to independence in 1947. His efforts inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi is commonly referred as the Father of the Nation in India. His birthday (October 2nd) is celebrated as an Indian national holiday and recognized world-wide as the International Day of Nonviolence.
