‘Design Motifs of Ancient Mexico’
(Jorge Enciso)
9/10 (A-)
Pictorial motifs are a traditional element of native art design; commonly used for various decorative purposes, to tell a story, or to convey an idea. Collecting an impressive 766 illustrations, ‘Design Motifs of Ancient Mexico’ is an invaluable source of indigenous creative ingenuity for all artists and historians interested in Meso-American artistry.
As a Chicano artist and historian, few books consistently inspire my artistic imagination and creativity like this gem.
*Meso-American motif stamps were mostly made out of hardened (baked) clay and were printed on paper, cloth, or animal skin by using paints made out of plant and mineral dyes.
